Windhoek & Desert
Destination: Namibia
Trip Length: 6 Days
Cost: £1,235 / €2,070 per person excluding international flights
Overview
This short self-drive trip combines a short time in Namibia’s capital city with 3 nights in the Namib Desert, and with easy access to Windhoek from Southern Africa, can be easily tagged on to the end of an existing trip.
You stay at 2 lodges in the desert: the first allows easy access to the magnificent spectacle of Sossusvlei at sunrise, when the colourful quartz sand in the early morning provides hues of creams, oranges, reds and violets: a photographers dream. A number of activities are included in your stay: you may choose to go eco-quad biking on the sand dunes at sunset, take a game drive or a guided walk to some caves where bushman paintings have been discovered. You can also choose to take a hot air balloon over the desert (cost extra).
The second lodge is deep in the Namib Desert and provides a real get-away-from-it-all experience. The variety of flora and fauna in this area is as fascinating as the colour nuances of the landscape, which change continuously as the day progresses. Accommodation is in an exclusive camp surrounded by the sand dunes. Guests sleep in en suite wooden chalets with private verandahs and amazing views. Sleeping with the large canvas blinds open is as good as sleeping under the stars!
