South Africa is truly a country to offer diverse experiences for the visitor. A fabulous self-drive holiday can be taken from Cape Town, through the winelands and along the Garden Route. For a safari experience, the Game Reserves provide luxury accommodation and excellent guiding to maximize wildlife spotting. KwaZulu-Natal, with 2 World Heritage Sites, is one of our very favourite areas.

We offer self-drive, fly-in and fully guided small group or privately guided trips. For a quick guide to our favourite areas, see below – and check out our Top Tips:

Top Tips

• Spot wildlife galore in KwaZulu-Natal’s Game Reserves and wetlands, be entranced with a day’s story-telling at the historical battlefields, and go walking in the breathtaking Drakensberg Mountains.

• Safari in one of Africa’s top Game Reserves: we provide a quick guide to the reserves here. Kruger is a well known destination: one of our favourite alternatives is the Madikwe Game Reserve for excellent wildlife and luxury lodge accommodation.

• For families, safari in one of the country’s lodges which have excellent children’s programmes – teaching the kids bush survival skills, bush cooking, hunting techniques favoured by the bush tribesmen, making bows and arrows, hearing ancient bush stories, tracking wildlife prints, etc. Easily combined with a beach destination for watersports and relaxation.

• Take a boat trip to see dolphins, walk along the coast, kayak excursion to a penguin colony and visit a monkey and elephant sanctuary along the spectacular Garden Route. From May – November, spot whales breaching from the shoreline.

• Take the Cable Car to the top of Table Mountain and take in Cape Town’s stunning scenery. A top city destination with shopping, excellent restaurants & bars, and thought-provoking museums detailing the city’s troubled past. Do a Cape Malay cookery course, take a half day learning about resident baboons on the peninsula, and take a trip down Chapman’s Peak Drive for spectacular coastal scenery.

• Spend a few days exploring the winelands – many vineyards offer tastings and the area is fast becoming a top gastronomic destination, offering 5 course culinary excellence at very moderate prices.

Our Favourites ...

Big Game Safaris

Kruger is probably the world’s most famous safari destination: with excellent opportunities to spot the Big 5 and luxury lodges. Alternatives include Madikwe Game Reserve, Hluhuluwe Imfolozi and the Eastern Cape Game Reserves.

Cape Town

Arguably one of the world’s most cosmopolitan, beautifully situated cities, what can’t be argued is the quality of locally produced wines and excellent food made from local produce. With an excellent year round climate, sandy beaches and fabulous shopping, live music and cultural attractions, Cape Town is an excellent destination to include in an itinerary – or indeed as a short break in itself.

Garden Route

Running from Mosel Bay in the west to just beyond Plettenberg Bay in the east, the coastline is a beautiful blend of long sandy beaches and forested mountains. From June to November, Southern Right Whales can be seen from the shore: activity options include marine cruises, mountain biking trails, canoeing and walking trails through nature reserves, coastal paths and forests. Great for a self drive holiday and an excellent destination for families. A stay on an Eastern Cape Game Reserve provides opportunity for a malaria-free safari experience. We have some small group guided trips available or sample tailor made itineraries.

KwaZulu-Natal

Hluhuwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is packed with wildlife – including the Big 5 – and is just a 40 minutes drive from the World Heriate Site of the St Lucia Wetlands Park, with activity options including whale watching, sunset cruises in hippo & croc infested waters, night time game drives, hikes on the nearby sand dunes, a visit to a cultural village, horse riding and golf. A day out with a local historian on the Zulu Battlefields brings a dramatic and fascinating story to life – perhaps unexpectedly, this could well be a highlight of a trip to the region. The Drakensberg Mountains – also a World Heritage Site – are breathtaking. Walks to waterfalls, ancient bushman art and through gorges on well signed paths will reward with magnificent views at every turn.
