The warm heart of Africa
As one of Africa’s smallest yet most beautiful countries, Malawi is not your traditional safari destination. It is, however, an amazing alternative to the more obvious choices.
Containing Africa’s third largest lake – Lake Malawi – it provides plenty of opportunities for sailing, kayaking, snorkelling and other watersports. The country also has miles of sandy beaches, secluded coves and lots of islands to discover for romantic getaways, which is maybe why it’s promoted as ‘the warm heart of Africa’.
Lake Malawi
At over 300 miles long, and home to more species of fish than any other lake in the world, Lake Malawi forms a physical backbone to the country. Crystal clear, it offers great opportunities for sailing, kayaking, snorkelling and other water sports. Miles of sandy beaches also make it a beautiful relaxation spot.
Liwonde National Park
With approximately 900 elephants and 2000 hippos – as well as crocodiles, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, vervet monkeys, yellow baboons, bushbucks and kudus – the Liwonde National Park boasts an abundance of wildlife within a relatively small area. It’s also home to more than 400 airborne species, making it a must-visit destination for bird-watchers.
Nyika National Park
Enjoy a different kind of safari in Malawi’s oldest reserve. Nyika National Park is a wonderful place to experience the more popular safaris from the safety of a vehicle, but also offers the opportunity to explore by mountain bike or on foot, for a closer look at plenty of wildlife.
