Days 1-2: Explore Windhoek
Arrive Windhoek, where you will you will be met and transferred to Galton House, where you will overnight in their beautifully designed rooms. Take the rest of the afternoon to relax and settle into your charming accommodation, or if you would like and time allows, you can explore the shops and craft market in the Windhoek city. Dinner tonight is enjoyed at a local restaurant of your choice or at the Galton House.
Day 3: Venture into the Namib Desert
Today you depart southwest through the scenic Khomas Hochland highlands, before heading down the Great Escarpment into the Namib Desert below, stopping for a picnic lunch en route. Continue on to Desert Homestead Outpost where you will spend the next two nights, exploring the remarkable sights of the Namib Desert with your guide. If there is still time today, your guide can take you to visit Sesriem Canyon, a nearby geological attraction, or you can relax and soak in the scenic and tranquil surroundings at the lodge.
Day 4: Sossusvlei
Depart early a.m. for Sossusvlei. The early morning provides great colour and shadows of the dunes, and after exploring the area, you settle down for a picnic breakfast under a shady tree. The Namib known as 'The Living Desert' is a world of vast space, endless horizons, dramatic desert scapes and jagged mountain heights. These dunes which are constantly changing shape with the wind - reach the height of a 70 storey skyscraper and are part of one of the world's oldest ecosystems.
Day 5: Swakopmund
The fascinating drive today takes you northwest through spectacular and ever changing desert landscapes of the Namib Naukluft National Park, including the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb canyons. You will meet the coast at the port town of Walvis Bay and then continue north to Swakopmund where you can enjoy the pleasant seaside location and cooler coastal air for your next two nights. There will be time this afternoon to explore the town on foot, before heading off for dinner at one of the popular restaurants which specialize in fresh seafood.
Day 6: Walvis Bay
Today you are taken to Walvis Bay by your private guide for a seal and dolphin cruise within the outer lagoon and harbor. The marine cruise is an ideal way of seeing cape fur seals, Heaviside and bottlenose dolphins, pelicans, flamingos and a wide variety of other sea birds. Sail past oyster farms as you approach Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 50,000 Cape fur seals. Snacks will be served along with local sparkling wine and fresh oysters. You return to the jetty at around 12:30, after which you may wish to explore more of Walvis Bay, before returning to your accommodation in the late afternoon and the rest of the day is spent at your leisure.
Day 7: Into Damaraland
Depart after breakfast into the Damaraland area of north western Namibia. Heading inland, passing Namibia's highest mountain, the Brandberg, on the way, continue towards Twyfelfontein, visiting the rock engravings on the way - recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes.
Twyfelfontein is one of the most extensive rock-art galleries on the continent, most likely made by the San Bushmen hunters who left their marks on the surrounding rocks some 6000 years ago. The rock art is situated along two circular routes which can be followed with a local guide. You arrive at Camp Kipwe, your accommodation in the late afternoon.
Day 8: Searching for elephants
After an early breakfast you depart in search of the elusive desert-adapted elephants in an open 4x4 vehicle. Desert-adapted elephant in the Kaokoland and the Namib walk further for water and fodder than any other elephant in Africa. The distances between waterholes and feeding grounds are as great as 68 km.
The typical home range of a family herd is larger then 2 000 square km, or eight times as big as ranges in central Africa where rainfall is much higher. They walk and feed at night and rest during the day. Either enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade of a large Ana tree by the riverbed, or return to the camp for lunch and the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.
Day 9: Etosha National Park
After breakfast you make your way to the Etosha National Park, travelling via the scenic Grootberg Pass. Along the way your guide will take you to visit a local Himba settlement – you may have to search for a while as the semi -nomadic Himba people sometimes move location with no notice.
After visiting the Himba you head East through the small town of Kamanjab before heading on towards tonights destination situated in the south of the Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo Resort inside Etosha National Park in the early afternoon and take a game drive.
Day 10: Mushara Bush Camp
Today you game drive across the park in an Easterly direction to exit through the Von Lindequist Gate, arriving at Mushara Bush Camp in the afternoon. Enjoy lunch en route at one of the lodges inside the park and spend the rest of your day is at leisure.
Day 11: Game viewing galore
Today is spent game-viewing in the Eastern Etosha National Park. Opt to go in to the park in the morning and afternoon, returning to the lodge for lunch, or head back across to spend more time in the area around Halali, alternatively you can head north pas Fischer’s pan and up into Andoni Plains if you prefer. Returning to Mushara Bush Camp by sunset.
Days 12-14: Head back to Windhoek
After breakfast this morning, head back to Windhoek, with the option to stop off a few kilometers outside Tsumeb to visit the sink hole, Lake Otjikoto. Lunch is enjoyed en route, and you arrive at Galton House in the afternoon for your last night. If time allows today, opt to do some last minute shopping before returning to the guesthouse to freshen up for dinner, which will be enjoyed in-house or at a local restaurant in town, together with your guide.
